Johnny Depp Confirmed for Transcendence; Working on Black Mass This Summer

Image
Christopher Nolans Oscar-winning cinematographer going back to Memento , Wally Pfister is moving over to the directors chair on the sci-fi project Transcendence . Johnny Depp lined up for the male lead role four months ago; meanwhile, on-the-rise stars Emily Blunt ( Looper ), Rebecca Hall ( Iron Man 3 ) and Rooney Mara ( Side Effects ) are reported to be circling the role of Depps wife in the motion picture. We now have official confirmation that Depp is a lock for Pfisters feature-length directorial debut, which is being prepped to start production in April. The scheduling works out nicely, following Depp attaching himself to the Whitey Bulger flick Black Mass earlier this month; as it stands, the true-crime biopic wont be shooting until this summer (rather than in May, as was originally reported), so Depp should be able to headline both films. Transcendence is based on a screenplay written by relative newcomer Jack Paglen, with additional development by Annie Marter ( Meet Bill ) a...

Johnny Depp Recounts "Close Call" Near-Death Experience on Lone Ranger Set

Image
While filming on the set of the new Lone Ranger film, Johnny Depp slipped off the side of a horse during a stunt and slammed to the ground, fortunately not suffering any major injuries, the actor recalled on Late Show with David Letterman Thursday. Depp, who said he's had experience with horses on several of his films, said the incident could've left him "horrifically mangled." "We were shooting at a different place in the desert where there's these little bumps and things," Depp said. "And so the horse that I was on decided to jump a couple of these little obstacles. The horse was unaware that the saddle I was wearing to sit on top of it was jury-rigged, kind of faked... to give the effect that I'm riding bareback. So basically it's not very tight on the horse. So when we came down, the saddle slipped and I went to the left and had the reins here and somehow had the wherewithal to grab the mane of the horse. All very calm for some reason...

Speaking on 'The Late Show With David Letterman', Johnny said: "There was one moment in particular where it got unpleasant. We'd been running [the horses] all day and they weren't really interested in slowing down, at all. "My horse that I was on decided to jump a couple of these little obstacles. The horse was unaware that the saddle I was wearing to sit on top of it was sort of jerry-rigged, kind of faked. "When we came down, the saddle slipped and I went to the left and (lost) the reins, somehow I had the wherewithal to grab his mane - all very calm for some reason, I figured fear would kick in, but it didn't. "I saw in front of my eyes these very muscular horse legs and the striations of muscles moving, this kind of death machine. One word popped into my head - hooves! You know? Hooves. In any case, mind the hooves." Johnny could have been seriously injured if it wasn't for the horse jumping over him, avoiding a near-miss with the ac...

Johnny Depp Stops by the Late Show Following the Release of a New Record

Johnny Depp kept warm in a plaid overcoat and black cap to stop by Late Show With David Letterman today in NYC. Johnny's been busy balancing his time between both the big screen and music. He stars in the upcoming film The Lone Ranger , alongside Armie Hammer, which is due out this Summer, and also popped up on stage at the Grammy's to present the album of the year award to Mumford & Sons earlier this month. Tim Burton saw past Johnny Depp's good looks

Image
Tim Burton has revealed he almost dismissed Johnny Depp when the pair first met because of his heartthrob status, but he saw a sensitive quality in him he felt was perfect for the lead in 'Edward Scissorhands'. Tim Burton cast Johnny Depp in 'Edward Scissorhands' in spite of his pretty boy reputation. The filmmaker - who has worked with the Hollywood actor countless times - saw past the teen heartthrob status Johnny's '80s TV crime drama '21 Jump Street' afforded him and discovered a sensitive man pigeon-holed because of his looks, which he thought was perfect for the lead role in his iconic fantasy film. He explained: ''It was quite simple. I mean, I knew about '21 Jump Street', and I had seen pictures and stuff, and I met him and he just reminded me of what the character was. At the time he was perceived as a teen idol, you know, a Justin Bieber type of guy, but as a person he wasn't that. ''So, for me, he mirrored what Edwa...

Prop with famous signatures stolen

Updated: Sunday, 17 Feb 2013, 11:42 AM MSTPublished : Sunday, 17 Feb 2013, 11:42 AM MST ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - It's signed by famous stars like Brian Cranston, Johnny Depp and Arnold Schwarzenegger, but a very important piece to a well-known restaurant was stolen Friday night. The crooks were caught on tape and they aren't the usual suspects. Restaurant managers say a couple out to dinner became crooks when they took a very popular prop, a baseball bat, from Vernon's Hidden Valley Steakhouse near 4th and Osuna in Albuquerque. Now the gangster they stole it from wants it back, or else. The rules are simple at the 20's, speakeasy style venue. "No Rodger's, Roscoe's, Choppers or Tommy guns," said Doorman Jackamoe Buzzell in his thick New York gangster accent. And there is absolutely no stealing the merchandise, but the couple didn't listen to that. "Usually here I'd pick up the bat and wave it around and say I don't use the bat to pla...
