Captain Jack Sparrow will sail the high seas once again in 2015 in a new installment of Pirates of the Caribbean.

Johnny Depp, who plays the movie's iconic character, has confirmed that he has signed on for Pirates of the Caribbean 5, which is scheduled to be released on July 10, 2015, according to E! News.

Jeff Nathanson has been enlisted as the screenwriter by producer, Jerry Bruckheimer; Nathanson is known for such films as Catch Me If You Can and "Tower Heist.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, a director has not yet been selected for the movie.

There is also no word about what the latest film's storyline will revolve.

E! News notes that the franchises previous installments have had to do with Aztec Gold, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, the villainous Davy Jones and the mythical Kraken Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, the Flying Dutchman and Davy Jones' Locker Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End and the fabled Fountain of Youth Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

Currently, the script has not yet been written and filming isn't expected to begin until 2014, E! News said.

Depp has mentioned previously that his endearing Jack Sparrow character wasnt always loved by everyone; apparently Disney wanted to fire him from the very first film, saying that they didnt appreciate his characters infamous mumbling.

"They didn't understand the character. They were actually contemplating subtitling the film," he told Larry King in 2011.
