Neighbor prevents murder plot inspired by Johnny Depp movie

Prosecutors said that a neighbor's concern about a suspicious truck cruising his street helped catch a would-be killer.

The driver of that truck is in the Milwaukee County Jail, accused of attempted homicide.

Lewis Poberezny was watching the Packers game at home in Wauwatosa on Sunday afternoon when his wife noticed a yellow rental truck trolling his street.

"I saw the truck go by a few more times, a total of eight or nine times," Poberezny said. "It kept stopping at the end of the block. We thought maybe there's some drug stuff going on."

So Poberezny called 911 and then headed outside.

"I got in my truck (and went) around the other way. I just wanted the license plate number, by then two Tosa squads had him pulled over," Poberezny said.

According to court records, police found a loaded .22 Ruger, 20 extra rounds of hollow-point bullets and a fake arm inside the truck.

Officers photographed the driver, 54-year-old Daniel Plevak, who was wearing a disguise -- a safety vest, curly wig, fake mustache and dark glasses.

Prosecutors said papers inside the truck suggest a plot inspired by the 2003 film "Once Upon a Time in Mexico," in which actor Johnny Depp used a fake arm to hide the gun under his jacket.

Police also found detailed information about Plevak's intended target -- a former college buddy Plevak recently accused of molesting children.

That target has no criminal record, and Plevak's brother told police he believes Plevak is danger! ous and in need of help.
