Johnny Depp's main goal in life is to have "happy kids"

The 48-year-old actor doesn't want any drama for his family and only hopes his children, Lily-Rose, 12, and nine-year-old Jack - who he has with long-term partner Vanessa Paradis - are content.

He said: "As a family man, as a dad, all you want is pure happiness for your kids.

"That's what I hope for. I'm OK with no big ups and no big downs. That's my dream - happy kids."

Johnny and his family spend most of their time living in France, and the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' actor says the things that most appeal to him about residing in the European country are history, culture and good wine.

He added to Australia's Daily Telegraph newspaper: "It's a beautiful culture, steeped in history. They respect creativity. They celebrate it. And the wine is pretty good."

Johnny - who shot to fame starring in US TV show '21 Jump Street' in 1987 - admitted he never wanted to be a "celebrity" and has always vowed never to make decisions for purely financial reasons.

He said: "I hated the idea of becoming a celebrity commodity, where nothing has any value and it's all about appearances and image - artificial just for the sake of making money. I swore to myself I wouldn't follow that path."
