Johnny Depp stars in 'The Rum Diary,' new on DVD and Blu-ray
"The Rum Diary"
Johnny Depp
Reporting for a sputtering Puerto Rican newspaper in 1960, boozy Paul Kemp (Johnny Depp) must sort out the phonies while finding his writing voice.
But he's distracted by a wild beauty (Amber Heard) on the loose.
Based on a novel by Depp comrade Hunter S. Thompson, this sexy 2011 film uncorks delightfully wry dialogue, though it mostly spins its wheels.
Depp is better when his character is a bemused observer than when he finds a cause to fight for.
Co-starring Aaron Eckhart, Richard Jenkins and Giovanni Ribisi, the 2011 film cost $45 million and only made $13 million in U.S. theaters.
Extras consist of two featurettes.
