Johnny Depp and Marilyn Manson have been buds for ages, or at least since Manson's song, The Nobodies, was featured in Depp's 2001 movie, From Hell, about British serial killer Jack the Ripper. Depp even invited the heavily made-up Goth singer to his first Pirates of the Caribbean premiere at Disneyland back in 2006, much to the horror of parents who had brought small children to the event.
Now, these two eccentric chaps havecollaborated on a duet (are you ready?): a cover of Carly Simon's infamous 1972 hit, "You're So Vain -- a song reputedly written about actor Warren Beatty. The song will be included on Manson's upcoming eighth album, Born Villain, due out May 1.
Manson's most famous film role was in David Lynch's The Lost Highway. His most famous song,The Beautiful People, caused a sensation in 1996. The track features a Trent Reznor-aided industria style that melded alternative and metal into pop culture. The final coup de gras occured when Reznor did the soundtrack for David Finchers The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
Depp also has a musical background, starting from his teen years playing lead guitar in a band called The Kids in South Florida. He moved to L.A. to pursue a music career, but ended up acting (21 Jump Street) as a way to pay the bills. He occasionally jams with his band, P, and was rece! ntly inv ited to play a number with Eddie Vedder. See the video below.
Since Manson embraces some pretty off-putting Goth fashion, it's doubtful he will ever receive Depp's latest honor: the Style Icon award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America, which will be presented to him in April in New York City.
