Los Angeles, March 29 : Hollywood actress Kate Mara is set to play a key role in cinematographer Wally Pfister's directorial debut "Transcendence", which also stars Johnny Depp. Paul Bettany and Rebecca Hall will also be seen in the sci-fi thriller, which is produced by Christopher Nolan. Although plot details are being kept under wraps, Depp is said to star as an assassinated scientist who has his brain uploaded on a computer, reports femalefirst.co.uk. According to the sources, Kate's sister Rooney Mara was first approached to play Depp's wife and fellow scientist, which ultimately went to Hall. NEW YORK (TheWrap.com) - Rebecca Hall has joined Johnny Depp and Paul Bettany in the cast "Transcendence," the directorial debut of Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister , Alcon Entertainment announced on Monday. Hall, who played Ben Affleck 's love interest in "The Town," worked with Pfister on Christopher Nolan 's "The Prestige." Pfister has been Nolan's cinematographer on every film since "Memento" and will try his hand at directing with this sci-fi thriller. Alcon Entertainment is financing and producing the project, which will begin principal photography in Los Angeles this April. Warner Bros, which will distribute the film, has already set an April 25, 2014, release date. Jack Paglen wrote the script, which calls for Depp to play a scientist whose brain is uploaded to a supercomputer.
