Johnny Depp's 'Transcendence' Adds Paul Bettany, Gets Dated
Wally Pfister, best known to the world as Christopher Nolans cinematographer, is now directing his own movie, and its going to star Johnny Depp and now Paul Bettany. The film is Transcendence, and it now has a release date: April 25, 2014.
Which means shooting will begin shortly if the film is to make its release date. There was word that a possible fifth Pirates of the Caribbean film might interfere with the making of this film, but Johnny Depp has a full dance card for the year, so a Pirates 5 will have to wait until late 2015, or early 2016. Word is that Transcedence is about a scientist whose brain gets uploaded into a supercomputer with the aim of creating the worlds first machine that can think for itself according to Collider. Though casting has begun in earnest, they are still looking for a female lead, with all the usual suspects in the mix (Rooney Mara, Emily Blunt, and Rebecca Hall have all been mentioned).
The release date means that Transcendence is scheduled to open a week before The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Normally that would be a death sentence, but as we saw in 2011, opening a week before the summer starts isnt always a bad thing, as that year Fast Five opened big in the same weekend. Does this have the same kind of pull? We shall see.
Are looking forward to Transcendence?
