Kate Mara, star of House of Cards, joins Johnny Depp and Rebecca Hall for Transcendence

Kate Mara, who plays the headstrong reporter Zoe Barnes in House of Cards, is joining the cast of Transcendence.

The sci-fi pic will be the first film directed by Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister (Inception). Johnny Depp has been linked to the project since last year and officially signed on in February. The Lone Ranger actor will take on this project first, then move on to Black Mass.

The plot of Transcendence has been kept under wraps, but Depps character is said to be a scientist whose brain gets put into a supercomputer, notes The Wrap. The rest of the cast will include Paul Bettany and Rebecca Hall.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the producing team on the project include Inception director Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas and Aaron Ryder. It is being produced and financed by Alcon Entertainment with Warner Bros. distributing domestically. The script was written by Jack Paglen.

M! ara, who is the older sister of Social Network actress Rooney Mara, recently filmed House of Cards for Netflix and appeared in American Horror Story in 2011. Her other credits include Entourage and 127 Hours.
