Johnny Depp Rumors Fly in 4 Corners
Superstar Johnny Depp, scheduled to play Tonto in the upcoming remake of The Lone Ranger, was allegedly spotted last weekend in Shiprock, Gallup, Monument Valley and Tuba City, Ariz., according to Facebook postings and phone calls to the Navajo Times.
Trouble is, Times reporter Cindy Yurth wrote, I couldnt find a single person who had actually seen Mr. Depp.
Canyon de Chelly guide Adam Teller, who heard the rumor of a Depp sighting in Chinle, raced to the Best Western Motel where Depp was allegedly staying, hoping to be the first to offer his services, but didnt see any vehicles that looked remotely Hollywood-ish, the Times said.
Best Western manager Julia Etsitty confirmed to the Times that Depp wasnt there, but she said his director was snooping about, lining up rooms for May, when filming for The Lone Ranger will start, according to the paper.
According to The Daily Times in Farmington, Depp may have visited the Four Corners over the weekend, but he was definitely not despite rumors to the contrary at Arbys, Target, Three Rivers Brewery or buying a mutton-and-green-chile sandwich on fry bread in Shipro! ck.
< p>If Depp really did visit the region, it was on his own and not in any official capacity for The Lone Ranger production, a publicist for Jerry Bruckheimer films told The Daily Times.
