Despite some reported personal turmoil this week, Johnny Depp can rest easy that Americas still got his back. The Pirates of the Caribbean star has topped Harris Interactives Favorite Movie Star poll for a second year in a row. There were plenty of surprises on the list, like how the reclusive Depp beat out four of Hollywoods most charismatic A-listers and a Westerns legend, the complete absence of Tinseltowns ultimate power couple, and the demographic breakdown of Depps fan base that shows his supporters are truly a silent majority. See who Depp bested for the title and which Oscar-winning actresses dropped off the list entirely after the jump.
Clint Eastwood a favorite ofSoutherners and men and, presumably, Southern men tied for second place with Denzel Washington. Demographically speaking, though, Washington was the top movie star in the eyes of Democrats and Moderates. Further down the list were Tom Hanks, John Wayne, and George Clooney, the top dog according to Mature (66+) respondents. Hollywoods Miss Congeniality Sandra Bullock was the only lady fave, since Angelina Jolie and Julia Roberts (fifth and sixth last year, respectively) were displaced. Harrison Ford, Will Smith, and Adam Sandler rounded out the top 10.
Its no surprise Depp was the favorite of the ladies, especially since he swept most of the demographic categories by age and region. What is surprising is that an American expat and all-around oddball like Depp was the favorite of registered Republicans andConservatives (as well as Independents). Perhaps it can be credited t! o his re cent spate of kid-friendly entertainment like Rango and the Disney mega-hit Pirates series.
What do you think, PopWatchers? Are you surprised Depp is beloved by right-wingers? Does the ouster of Jolie and Roberts shock you? Which left-out A-lister do you think should have been on the list (hello, Brad Pitt!)?
