Johnny Depp Adopted Into Comanche Indian Tribe
Actor Johnny Depp has been formally inducted by the Comanche Indian tribe ahead of his role in a remake of the classic Western tale The Lone Ranger, according to The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday.
Depp is set to play Tonto, the Comanche Indian sidekick to the Texas Lone Ranger.
Depp already claims a slice of Native American heritage but was invited to join the Comanches ahead of his film role.
"I reached out, and Johnny was very receptive to the idea," LaDonna Harris, a Comanche and president of Americans for Indian Opportunity, was quoted as saying. "He seemed proud to receive the invitation, and we were honoured that he so enthusiastically agreed."
The induction ceremony took place last week, with Depp giving gifts to the attendees as per tradition, the report said.
The Lone Ranger, directed by Gore Verbinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, is set for release on May 31, 2013.
