PanARMENIAN.Net - D.V. DeVincentis has been tapped to write Disneys big-screen adaptation of The Night Stalker, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Stalker is one of the more high-profile projects in the works at the studio because Johnny Depp is attached to star and Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) is attached to direct.

The project is based on the ABC television series Kolchak: The Night Stalker, created by Jeff Rice and starring Darren McGavin. The show ran for only one season (1974-75) but proved a hit in syndication.

The series centered on Carl Kolchak, a reporter for the Chicago-based Independent News Service Stories, who investigated bizarre crimes committed by supernatural agents.

Depp, currently on screen in Dark Shadows (also based on an old TV show), is producing with Christi Dembrowski.

DeVincentis is best known for co-writing Grosse Pointe Blank and High Fidelity. He most recently wrote the screenplay for Lay the Favorite, the Stephen Frears-directed dramedy starring Rebecca Hall, Bruce Willis and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

DeVincentis is repped by UTA, Management 360 and Morris Yorn.
