People: Johnny Depp officially joins Comanche Nation

Johnny Depp has officially joined the Comanche Nation.

The actor, 48, who is playing Tonto in a remake of The Lone Ranger, has been asked to join the New Mexico-based tribe, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

President of Americans for Indian Opportunity LaDonna Harris said: Johnny is reprising the historic role of Tonto, and it seemed like a natural fit to officially welcome him into our Comanche family.

I reached out, and Johnny was very receptive to the idea. He seemed proud to receive the invitation, and we were honored that he so enthusiastically agreed.'

has said in the past that he has American Indian ancestry from his great-grandmother, who was a Cherokee Indian.

Johnny attended the ceremony at LaDonna's home in Albuquerque, N.M., where The Lone Ranger is being shot.

In keeping with tradition, he gave gifts to tribal leaders and took photographs with them during the ceremony, the Reporter notes.

Will Smith called the recent incident in which a Ukrainian reporter tried to kiss him on the red carter just awkward.

David Letterman questioned the actor, 34, about the incident, which took place at the Moscow premiere of "Men In Black 3," saying: You beat up a guy who was trying to hug you.'

Laughing, Will exclaimed, I didn't beat up a guy!'

Meanwhile, the Ukranian reporter who smooched him has apologized.

Will explained what happened, He says, I'm you're biggest fan, can I have a hug? So I go to give this joker a hug, and he tries to lean in and kiss me!'
