Johnny Depp Performs with Black Keys, Other Actors Who Are Rock and Rollers
One of the highlights of the MTV Movie Awards on June 3 was when actor Johnny Depp took to the stage to perform with the rock band, The Black Keys. Depp received the MTV Generation Award from Aerosmith and the musical performances was just icing on the cake for Depp fans.
Depp and the Black Keys performed two songs, "Gold on the Ceiling" and "Lonely Boy." Of course, it is no surprise that Depp looked so comfortable playing with the Black Keys, as the actor has enjoyed music since his days as partial owner of The Viper Room. Depp has performed with Oasis on "Fade In-Out" and was a member of P, a band with Butthole Surfers lead singer Gibby Haynes.
Depp is also not the only actor to lend his talent to the music industry either.
Kevin Costner
Actor Kevin Costner has made a full jump into the music world with his band, Kevin Costner and the Modern West, which he formed in 2007. The band has four studio albums to date and Costner has recently been promoting the most recent album, a tie-in with the record breaking TV movie, "Hatfields & McCoys," which Costner starred in alongside Bill Paxton.
Russell Crowe
Russell Crowe, the bad boy actor from New Zealand, has always made known his love for rock and roll and has performed as a musician since the '80s. His band grew and transformed into the musical act 30 Odd Foot of Grunts and released an EP in 1995. Even while Crowe was becoming a movie star, earning three Oscar nominations, he continued to record music with his band and released five albums by the time they broke up.
Since the breakup of his original band, Crowe has not gi! ven up o n music and has been recording with a new band called The Ordinary Fear of God since that time.
Kevin Bacon
Actor Kevin Bacon and his brother Michael formed a band called The Bacon Brothers in 1995. The duo have released seven albums since officially forming and their music has appeared on the TV show "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy."
"My earliest memory of music was what my brother was playing or the music he brought home," Kevin Bacon said. "My heroes growing up were all rock 'n' rollers."
