Johnny Depp gearing up to star in Wally Pfister's 'Transcedence'

Wally Pfister, the cinematographer, and overall right hand man of Christopher Nolan, is making his directorial debut with a science fiction film called Transcendence, which is eyeing Johnny Depp for the leading role.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Depp has been offered $20 million against 15 percent of the films gross at the box office to take the role. That is quite a huge incentive, even in Hollywood.

IGN said that Swedish Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and, more recently, star of Ridley Scotts Prometheus, Noomi Rapace is up for the female lead.

Apparently Tobey Maguire and James McAvoy are vying for another role in the film while Christoph Waltz has been offered a supporting role.

Warner Bros, will distribute the film and Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas will produce.

The plot is said to be in the vein of 2001: A Space Odyssey and Inception, the latter of which Pfister is credited as Director of Photography.

Transcendence will enter principal photography in early 2013.
