Johnny Depp Is Dead... Err Wait, No He's Not

The world was hit by the shock today that Johnny Depp had died, drowned on the set of his new movie 'The Lone Ranger'.

For a man who in recent times has become synonymous with taking on the monsters of the deep it would have been a dreadful end, although certainly something for obituary writers to pour over.

Except it didn't happen, except on social networks. However, sadly, unlike the usual reports of various stars falling off cliffs in New Zeland, this rumour did have a grain of truth in it.

Depp hadn't returned from the deep a la Jack Sparrow, but last month a crew member did die of an apparent heart attack while working inside a large water tank on 'The Lone Ranger's' Los Angeles set, with the death being initially reported as due to drowning.

Depp was in New York at the time of the incident, but that didn't stop a surge of reports of the 'Edward Scissorhands' actor's demise, with Facebook memoriams and Twitter trends reinforcing the impression that the actor was sleeping with the fishes.

Depp is apparently absolutely fine, and can put this down to experience as it's not the first time he's been killed off by the Internet, as he was also, according to cyberspace, the victim of a fatal car crash in 2010.
