Rumor of the Day: Johnny Depp getting an insane Pirates 5 payday

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has grown into one of Disney's biggest moneymakers, so it's no surprise they're looking to bring back star Johnny Depp for a fifth installment. But it could cost them one heck of a pirate bounty to keep Capt. Jack Sparrow from flying the coop.

Rumors are buzzing that Depp wants between $90-95 million to reprise his role in a potential fifth sequel, which producer Jerry Bruckheimer has said could only work with Depp back in the fold.

Admittedly, the franchise has made insane amounts of money, but what's the real reason Depp is seeking such a huge payday? According to some reports, the actor is worried he might wear out his welcome as the scheming pirate, so he wants to make sure it's worth his while to stick around.

A source told The Sun newspaper, as reported by The Age:

"[Depp is] being very careful he does not sign on for too many films. This huge deal for Pirates means he will be able to pick his other roles very carefully on the strength of their script rather than their salary."

Though some fans have argued the last few installment featured a bit too much Depp, with the departure of original co-stars Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, he's still the star that holds it all together.

What do you think? Is Depp worth the insane payday for another Pirates movie?
